The Book
“He’s worried that something’s happening to him, but he doesn’t know what.”
Myles is a investment banker at the height of his career and the end of his marriage. He catches the same ferry every morning and reads client files the whole way across, never once looking at the harbour.
Then an old fisherman on the wharf raises his voice, and something gives way. Myles’s heart races, his vision blurs, and his dead father’s face rises up in front of him.
What follows is a year of coming apart. A mother’s death. A sealed envelope holding her testimony. A sister carrying a disclosure she has never been able to say out loud. Myles has to reckon with a history nobody told him and which he has been carrying the whole time regardless.
A novel about inherited grief, the cost of a life built on never stopping, and how much of a person can be dismantled before what remains is finally their own.
